Scheduling Frustration

It’s continually impossible to avoid the onslaught of negative headlines at the moment. Even being in community with others can get dicey when individual modalities of coping vary from constant regurgitation of information (guilty🖐🏾) to avoidance altogether 😅. Pausing and assessing how much to focus on current events vs. intentional focus on the personal goings on of who I’m in conversation with, and asking them directly what they prefer has been helpful and honestly hilarious at times. Some people take it as a great relief that they have the floor to vent about the fires around them (always happy to join). Others can feel welcomed to take up space in the conversation to speak about themselves, an act that can feel selfish to some, but is often times connecting. Especially in a time when it frequently feels as if the future you want is getting further and further out of reach from a societal standpoint, forgoing the constant work, engaging in the present, and being joyous in what you have going on around you is vital. To that sentiment, this weekend I attended a talent show of sorts. Just a group of friends living in a big house who were tired of all having great communities of people with interesting talents that would love to share their gifts, passions, and things being workshopped with the world, but don’t ever have access to a stage/presenting situation. So, they turned their Livingroom into a stage, got some snacks, and BOOM, community showcase night. It was inspiring to see, amazing to be a part of (ya boy’s guitar skills are crusty, but passable😂), and just get to be in the flow of doing something you love while supporting others doing the same. I highly recommend giving it a shot and reaching out to those around you for some expressive time that’s not so focused on “the work” but just being. Call it a reclamation of them moment, far more effective and healthy then the current phenomenon of Revenge Bedtime Procrastination usually sponsored in part by the formidable doom scroll. Get out there and let’s see some moderately (if at all) polished talents!

Something You’d Like Knowing About

5 Calls

A service in place that streamlines your ability to have your voice heard! It makes it easy to access the phone numbers of your state representatives, has built in scripts, and a built in call button. In a time when it feels like there’s nothing you can do to affect change, know that incremental steps like this (takes about 3 minutes tops!) are what lead to the mountain moving. Here is their site, but check out your phone’s app store for the easiest utilization. 👍🏾

Trying To Care Less Pod

They say there are too many podcasts out there. Maybe they’re right. But I’m glad to be a prat of the “problem.” Getting to chat with a good friend in longform, no stakes format is of course fun, but getting the feedback from viewers that support and connect with our conversation has been beyond rewarding! We cover politics, philosophy, and more throughout our shows but would LOVE to know what topics you’d like to hear covered! Listen to our latest episode “Billionaires v. The People, Countrymen System, and Prosperity Perspectives” here!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Kathy Beeck, co-founder of the Boulder International Film Festival. With over 20 years of the festival and a lifetime of film leading up to it, Kathy reflected on what it means to be culturally inclusive and how cultivating a space for creativity can be one of humanity’s most invaluable assets. Say Something

Here’s a snippet from my local city counsel meeting. Getting up on the stand during public comment can seem daunting, or even futile, but there are loads of potential positives waiting just beyond that discomfort. For me, it sparked further conversations/connections with people in the crowd who have ongoing initiatives that I would likely have never known of, and sentiment from the counsel towards supporting the shared voices of those who spoke even in the face of federal pressures. That matters. (And as you can see, you don’t even have to rehearse much, though next time I will. 😅)
